PCOS - POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME & AYURVEDA

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a condition in which a woman has an imbalance of a female sex hormones. This may lead to menstrual cycle changes, cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting pregnant, and other health changes
Symptoms of PCOS include changes in your period (menstrual cycle).  Some changes are:
  • No period after you have had one or more normal ones during puberty (secondary amenorrhea)
  • Irregular periods, that may come and go and may be very light to very heavy
PCOS can cause you to develop male-like characteristics. This is called virilization. Symptoms include:
  • Body hair growing on the chest, belly, face, and around the nipples
  • Decreased breast size
  • Enlargement of the clitoris
  • Thinning of the hair on the head, called male-pattern baldness
  • Voice gets deeper
You may also have skin changes:
  • Acne that gets worse
  • Dark or thick skin markings and creases around the armpits, groin, neck, and breasts

Women with PCOS are more likely to develop:
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Infertility
  • Breast cancer (slightly increased risk)

Common problem is that  amenorrhoea get worsened by Hormonal treatment. As it is induced bleeding, it is only bleeding agent. It get fail to correct problem. In many women, after hormonal therapy , cycle get more disturbed.

    Let see what ayurveda say,
As we know menstrual cycle is of ave 28 days.first four days of bleeding are under influence of vata, next 8-10 days are of kapha & remaining under pitta .
what is exactly PCOS? acc. ayurveda it is like sannipat in jwar . i will rather dare to describe this situation as vriddha kapavata hina pitta (rasa gat condition).
    how? let see.
    what happened in PCOS?

    - delayed maturation of ovum - vitiated kapha
    - anovulation - deprived pitta
    - irreular cycles / no bleeding / avaruddha gati of raja - vitiated vata
    - Raja is updhatu of rasa

Parthenogenesis may be obstructive or kshayaj ( deprived Rasa) , accordingly should be treat.
In obese patient,Lifestyle modification, diet correction, yoga and regular exercise is the basic line of treatment, panchakarma like vaman , virechana and basti will be helpful with medicine.
In lean patient, we have to concentrate on proper nutrition of Rasa along with lifestyle correction.

so what should be principle of treatment
    1. to correct rasa
    2. here is deprivation of ushna n teekshn guna of pitta so to correct them
    3. rasa is same as kapha so correct rasa will correct kapha , both having same properties
    4. to correct apana vayu

Panchakarma  will be definitely helpful according to prakriti and dosha.
Lifestyle modification , diet correction, yoga and regular exercise will definitely helpful

Ayurveda  treatments themselves do not 'cure' the condition, they simply restore the body's self-healing ability.
