Piles and Ayurveda

Hi friends, we all know piles are engorgement of the veins of anal canal. Constipation and wrong diet habits are the  main culprits. Persons consuming processed food are at greater risk. At Initial stage , one recovers with diet and lifestyle modifications and medicines, but advance stage may needs surgery. The worse thing about it is, it has recurrence after medication and even post surgeries.
Here are some tips which will help to cure and prevent piles.
1. Take care of your digestion , avoid food which causes indigestion
2. Instead of cheese or butter use homemade butter
3. Have 1 tsp of cow ghee with meal
4. For non vegetarians,Prefer soups instead of spicy curries
5. Dry food should be avoided
6. Avoid spicy, sour and salty food
7. Fresh homemade buttermilk after meal is beneficial
8. Avoid food with preservatives
9. Whole grain flour should be used
10. Have easy to digest food which helps in regular excretion ,in proper quantity.Avoid overeating or fasting. Both are problematic.
11. Soups of vegetables, pulses, rice and curries are preferable.
12. Use onion in diet raw or cooked
13. Avoid excess of tea,coffee or chilled drinks.
14. For improving digestion one can use kokam, amla, berries or pomegranate while cooking. It will also increase taste .
15. Avoid sitting for long while, driving bikes for long distance or sitting on uneven surfaces.
16. Do exercise in moderate quantity.
17.  Avoid suppressing urge of defecation and  improper use of laxatives
18.  For pain , have sitz bath in warm water
19. If there is burning sensation at anus, apply ghee

Asthma and Ayurveda



New statistics showing that there is increasing number of newly diagnosed patients of asthma  with no family history. Inspite of nutritious food, air conditioners and cleanliness , it is still going up. In last four years, sales of anti-asthmatic  drugs is increasing by 45% in India.
So where is missing key?
According to Ayurveda, asthma is the progressive stage of neglected respiratory problems specially rhinitis and cough. Ayurveda can help definitely here. How? Here are simple tips for asthma .

1. Avoid  refrigerated food, cold drinks and cold air.
2. Have always warm, fresh and easy to digest food.
3. In dinner, prefer soups of veggies, pulses or rice.
4. Daily abyanga specifically to chest and back with warm oil followed by warm shower will definitely help.
5. Don't skip meals.
6. Avoid drinks at bedtime.
7. Have a teaspoon of ghee in meal.
8. Say no to heavy food like dairy ,sweets, fried foods, chocolates and heavy food.
9. Have regular flour than multipurpose flour.
10. Most important is to take care of constipation.
11. Practice yoga under guidance.

CONSTIPATION AND AYURVEDA


Constipation
 A problem everyone faces in lifetime. Many people uses laxatives to get rid of it and still fails. It makes uncomfortable throughout the day.
Constipation is a condition of difficulty in emptying bowels . It may with or without  hard stool.Both conditions needs different treatment.
Here we are focusing on constipation due to hard stool. Low fibre diet, inadequate liquids, dry food, some medications and lack of fats are the most culprits. Hard stool may leads to fissure, piles or anorectal diseases.
Here are some tips to get rid of it.
1. Try to wake up early and never hold the urge of
     Defecation
2. Welcome vegetables in plate and lessen the
    bakery products.
3. Have sips of water during dining
4. Thin curries are preferred
5. Have 2 tsp of ghee with dal
6. Use adequate  organic oils while cooking
7. Avoid fine flour products,
8. NEVER use laxatives without consulting your

DANDRUFF AND AYURVEDA

Let see what is dandruff?
Normally dead skin of scalp is shedded, it is not noticable. But when flakes of skin starts to appear on scalp hair , it is dandruff.
Ayurveda believes dandruff is due to aggravated vata and kapha.Excessive consumption of unhealthy food specially when digestion is hampered, exposure to cold, excess use of oily food, butter, cheese,cream, paneer, salted food, tea, coffee, cold food items like icecream, chilled water or beverages, excess use of  chemicals like shampoo, soap, gel , colour , dye, cream or conditioner.
Here are tips to get rid of it.
1.Replace butter and cheese with coconut oil and cow ghee, add milk in your diet.
2. Have homemade fresh and traditional food in your plate
3. Use herb decoction for hair wash like shikekai, reetha, jyeshtamadha, triphala
4. Massage scalp with warm coconut oil or seasame oil atleast 3 times a week

GASES AND AYURVEDA






Hi friends, intestinal gases is very common problem. Though it is not actually a big trouble , but it makes awkward. If it causes odour and noise , it feels more shameful. People looks at you like a criminal. Joke apart this situation indicates low health of gastrointestinal tract.
For chronic gases, one has to be careful. It can be sign of any disease.

What is gas? Why it is there?
It is mixture of gases. It is due to either swallowed air or normal breakdown of undigested food by bacteria present in large intestines.
Rapid drinking , chewing gum, chewing tobacco products, sucking on hard candy, drinking carbonated beverages or loose dentures can cause to swallow more air.
Anothet cause is related to digestion i.e, Lactose intolerance, some carbs, lentils, beans, sugars, sodas corn, pasta , soluble fibres etc. Not everybody caughts gases with each of it.
Treatment includes avoid the food item causing gases, enzyme supplements, antacids, activated charcoal tablates. 

Ayurveda have different view. It is normal to fart and don't restrain it. It is indication of hampered digestive system. Here proper digestion by enhancing Agni is the only key to treatment. For proper digestion, one need to take care of diet, lifestyle, exercise and sleep.

Diet care includes what, when ,how much and how to eat. 
What to eat?
Start your day with light breakfast which have proper proprtion of nutrients and traditional , semi soft, home made, fresh, warm and contains ghee or oil in little amount. 
For lunch and dinner, have home made, fresh and warm food.
Welcome 1 to 2 tsp of ghee in diet.
Use cooked food. For digestion of raw food , needs more efforts.
Addition of spices specially asafoetida, cumin, garlic, mustard seeds, black pepper, aniseed, ajwain (carom seeds) and ginger aids the digestion.
Never eat beans and lentils without adding oil or ghee.
After food , one can have a cup of buttermilk.
Avoid refrigerated food, carbonated drinks, fine floor products, fermented food, canned food and food containg soda (sodium bicarbonate). 

When to eat?
Have fixed time for having food. Don't shuffle it.Best time is when you feel hungry.

How much to eat?
For this, one have to observe carefully. Eat in that quantity which allows you to feel light. One should consume according hunger. It may differ according to person.
Avoid overeating , to just tempt your buds. Avoid excess of water and chilled drinks. 

How to eat?
It is really important part.
It have dramatic effect on digestion. One should eat at slow pace. Rapid eating causes incomplete chewing, more air swallowing and indigestion. While eating, one should have sips of water in between. Lukewarm water will be more beneficial. Avoid any other activity while having food. Enjoy food with all senses. Feel the satiety.


Lifestyle
There must be atleast 2 hrs gap between food and sleeping. Early morning awakening helps to keep bowels clear and helps in digestion. Have short nap after lunch and little walk after dinner. 

Excercise 
Daily light excercise helps to relieve gases and improves digestion. Vajrasan after food is really helpful. Practicing Yoga postures like pavan muktasan , utthita padasan, ardha matsyendrasana will be helpful.

Sleep 
Sleep contribute a lot. Daily adequate sound sleep is necessary for adequate secretion of digestive juices. 
Late night awakening , disturbed and inadequate sleep should avoided.

Medicines 
Shankhavati, ajmodadi choorna ,lavanbhaskar choorna, hingwashtak choorna etc are useful. But should consume under guidance.

Panchakarma 
Local warm oil masage , fomentation and basti are helpful. Should consult Vaidy for details.

When there is acute attack , here are tips to help you
1. Consume 1 pinch of ghee fried asafoetida with lukewarm water.
2. Drink warm water.
3. Chew pinch of rock salt or black salt 
4. Do dry fomentation
5. Lie on stomach for awhile 
6. Walk a little
7. Don't eat until you feel hungry 

To pass gases is natural urge of body, don't ashame to relieve them. Restaining may harm you.

OLIGOSPERMIA AND AYURVEDA



Do you know, there is increase in couples facing infertility issue? In males, oligospermia is the foremost cause. Oligospermia means low sperm count than normal. It causes problem in conceiving. Alcohol, smoking, strenous activity, some medications, trauma, varicocele, mumps, malaria, infections etc are the causes.Treatment part includes dietary supplements, hormonal therapy and surgical correction which is not so promising.

Ayurveda have some different view while treating this condition. Ayurveda don't aim only for increasing count but also quality, to produce healthy offsprings.Here we have to correct dosha. Low sperm count may be due to lack of nutrition of reproductive cells, consumption of less nutritious diet or shukra diminishing diet. Long term illness, excess coitus act, trauma, exertion, addictions and stress are the other causes. Correction of diet , lifestyle, panchakarma and medicines is the key.
Ayurveda believes shukra is made from food. So it is first part to be correct.
Welcome cow ghee and cow milk in diet.
Have nutritious, homemade and fresh food.
For nonvegetarian, soup and fertilized eggs can be added.
Country Chicken is preferable.
 Vegetarian should add black gram, wheat, ghee, rice in diet.
Say no too excess salty , spicy and sour food.
Use rock salt.
Food containing coustic soda, carbonated drinks, readymade sauces, preseved and canned food, dry food and in compatible food should strictly prohibited.
Say no to addictions specially tobacco products.
Do moderate excercise.
Take adequate sleep.
To manage stress practice yoga.
Panchakarma are very useful in this condition. Basti, Uttarbasti, Virechana, Nasya and Shirodhara will be helpful. One should consult vaidya for that.
Amla,black gram, musali, kavachbeej, shilajit, gokshura adhwagandha are beneficial.
Aphrodisiac and Rejuvenating medicines are useful. One should consume under guidance.
